Patience is power. And power is perseverance.

Today’s run was a lesson in patience (again). And, man, there were so many times for practicing patience on today’s long run. Like when I wanted to go faster but couldn’t. When I could go faster but shouldn’t have. When I was going fast but needed to slow down.

I’m learning that patience is about being good with a slower pace and lighter effort in the moment, so I can run the right pace and effort later. So I can finish stronger than when I started.

I’m realizing patience is not weakness. It is strength.

Patience is not tolerance. It is acceptance.

Patience is not a lack of commitment. It is focused intent.

Patience is not laziness. It is power. And power is perseverance.

So what do you need to exercise patience with?

Is it the company you’re building or your career journey?

The deal you’re trying to land or the project you’re trying to get started?

The change movement you’re leading or the challenging conversations you are convening?

The relationships in your life, or perhaps yourself?

Let’s make more space for patience in our mindsets, especially at the start and in the middle of whatever races we’re all running — so we have the power and perseverance we need at the end.

Oh yeah — this is about running. And this is not about running. 😉
